Renovation
of a school in Nepal
The
Prabhatschool in Sarongkot, a city in Nepal, educates 110 children who
live in the Pokhara area. The school building didn’t really deserve
to be called so. The roof was leaking, the walls were almost falling down
and there was no daylight coming into the building.

The foundation SATHI Nepal (Special Attention to Himalayan Illiteracy)
asked Window to the World to do something about this situation. With funds
from several companies and a private foundation we were able to finance
the necessary renovation. Now there is a building in which children can
safely enjoy education.

Computer
lessons for handicapped children in Russia
Vladimir Russia. An organization called SVET comprised of parents of 160
physically handicapped children wanted to run lessons in English and computer
studies. The local hospital has offered a classroom and there are teachers
present.

Window to the World provided computers, software, wheelchairs and a small
bus suited for wheelchair transport. With this bus the children will be
picked up from their homes and brought to their classes. They will have
lessons twice a week for a period of three years. After finishing this
training these young people will be able to give computer lessons themselves
and they will be able to find a job. Window to the World has been able
to support this project with financial gifts from foundations, companies
and individuals.

Fundacao
Padre Emilio Immoos
In Avaré, a medium sized city in Brazil a shelter for
street children named Foundation Father Emilio Immoos has been founded.
The shelter provides a roof for about 80 boys. They are all mentally handicapped
and previously lived on the streets. Since for many of the boys there
is no alternative they often stay in the shelter permanently. Next-door
to the shelter there is a farm where the boys do agricultural work and
learn skills like carpenters work or painting.
Window to the World supports this shelter and has sent medical equipment
instruments for physiotherapy, computers, tools and sports goods. These
goods are all very necessary because this foundation receives very little
financial support from the local government whilst the support of Brazilian
companies is decreasing.

Murales
in Ecuador
Murales is the Spanish word for wall paintings or mural paintings,
and is a well-known means of communication in Latin American countries.
Murales brighten up the streets and they contain political, religious
or educational messages. Working together with Maquipucuna (an organization
for eco tourism) Window to the World has participated in a project in
which murales had an important part.
On three primary schools pupils designed murales and painted them on the
walls of their schools. The leading theme was: love and protect nature.
The murales are brightening up the school buildings. Furthermore they
educate children in a playful way that the surroundings are worth to be
protected.

Water
well in Mongolië
My Home Kindergarten
is a children’s day care centre in Erdenet, a city with 100.000
inhabitants in Mongolia. The centre is open for children from 5 to 7 years
of age who are being prepared for primary school. There is no running
water in the centre and the nearest water well is at 2 kilometers walking
distance. Each morning children are queuing up to buy water that they
then carry to the centre.

In cooperation
with the Peeters school Window to the World is financing a water well
for My Home Kindergarten so in future the centre will have water of its
own.

Computers
for Otavalo
Andean Indian parents in Ecuador often keep their daughters at
home to let them work or help in the household. In Otavalo the Raul Pavon
Mejia school has pioneered a new approach. Local girls that go to school
will receive a scholarship. In this way the girls can finish their education
and take a stronger position on the labour market.

Computer lessons had not been given for twelve months as the computers
were stolen. After the school had installed an alarm system Window to
the World has sent twelve computers supporting this local initiative.
The organization Pilots without frontiers has taken care of transport
without any costs.
The computer lessons
have restarted as you can see on these pictures.
